(New York Post)

Deivi Garcia is the Yankees’ top pitching prospect; at 20-years-old, he’s been doing nothing but impressing his team and General Manager Brian Cashman. Proof of that was when Cashman would not let Garcia go in any trade during the July 31 trade deadline. He’s the future of the Yankees, but could this future be only a few weeks away?

Deivi Garcia started in Single-A, then quickly moved up to Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Garcia’s last appearance was a five-inning, no hit outing against Gwinnett this past Saturday night. He struck out seven and walked five after Ben Heller opened the game. Garcia is
currently sitting at a 4.08 ERA (average playing with all three teams), only allowing 52 runs in 103.2 innings played. The numbers don’t quite compare to our other veteran bullpen pitchers; however, for a young pitcher the numbers are too bad.

This past Wednesday, Deivi Garcia was being moved again and the Yankees could see him in the bullpen on September 1 when the roster expands. When asked if Garcia could see a spot on the roster, Brian Cashman said “Maybe…We will evaluate”. Considering the current pitching struggles we are having, and the Yankees now utilizing bullpen pitchers as starters, adding Garcia could help while we wait for Luis Severino and Dellin Betances to come back. What will Garcia’s future look like with the Yankees in the major league? It’s too early to tell, we’ll have to wait and see how Garcia can handle the pressure. If he can handle the pressure and pitches well, I’m sure the Yankees will find a spot for him next season.
