Why the New Playoff Format is not a good Idea?

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic Baseball was forced to play a 60-game season this season has caused for a couple rule changes some I like some that I don’t. I love the Universal DH and I like the having a runner on 2nd to start extra innings but I’m not in favor of expanding the postseason from 10 to 16 teams.

On Thursday baseball decided to expand the playoff format 10 to 16 the top 2 teams in each division will make the playoffs and 2 teams with the next best record in each league will make the playoffs. The First round series will be a best of 3 and the Division Series, League Championship series and World Series stay the same.

One reason I don’t like this is the league waiting until after the first pitch was thrown to make this decision it makes the league look incompetent and with what went on between MLBPA of Baseball during the Pandemic it’s not a good look for the league. Secondly your taking way from what could have been a very exciting regular season with baseball losing fans because of pace of play and having to many games this 60 games season had a chance to bring that excitement back. Lastly, it’s not far for the top teams to have to play teams that just get in and were around 500 in a best of 3 series.

When you thought baseball was going to do something right and have a great 60 game sprint from late July to the end of September they have ruined it by allowing more than half the league to make the playoffs and their ratings will suffer once the NBA playoffs start in mid-August and the NFL Seasons starts in September.
