Who Should be Considered for the All-Star Game?
With voting in progress for the 2019 All-Start game, which of the Yankees players should earn a spot? Below are my thoughts on which Yankees players need to be considered.
Gary Sanchez:
In just 42 games this year The Kraken is the American League leader in home runs with 19, has already hit more homeruns this year than he did all of 2018, and he beat a home run record that was previously held by the one and only Yogi Berra, for most home runs by a Yankee catcher before the All Star break…that should be enough to prove that Sanchez deserves a spot in the All-Star game. If you need more, here are some defensive stats. Sanchez has only allowed 4 passed balls this year, which is a big improvement compared to previous years, and has a cannon of an arm recently throwing 88 mph to throw a runner out at second. Think about that, Sanchez threw a ball to second base faster than some MLB pitchers.
DJ LeMahieu:
LeMahieu is currently sitting at a .323 batting average (which is fourth best in the American League), with recently having an 11-game hitting streak. LeMahieu has the best average on the Yankees with Runners in Scoring Position, sitting at a .491, with 40 RBIs. He also has a .433 RISP with 2 outs and .667 with the bases loaded. This is just his offensive skill; let’s take a dive into what his defensive skill has looked like so far. With only 3 errors this year, 25 Double Plays, and 1.000 Fielding Percentage, LeMahieu has not only become a reliable batter for the Yankees but a super utility man that we can count on to play basically any position in the infield. There’s a reason why LeMahieu was a 2x All-Star, 3x Gold Glove winner, and a winner of the Batting Title, he’s been an incredible player so car and deserves another spot on the All-Star roster.
