This week after the Texans hired David Culley as their head coach, Deshaun Watson made it public that he wanted to be traded. Watson is a top 5 QB in the league, but the Texans have done many things as an organization the past couple of years that has gotten Watson to this point. It all started in June of 2019 when the Texas fired GM Brian Gaine after one year and Bill Obrien took over as GM the Texans. In that offseason, the Texans made 2 big moves- one helped them and one hurt them. The one that helped them was trading for Laremy Tunsil to improve their offensive line, but the issue with that trade was they had to give the Dolphins 2 first round picks for him and one was the number 3 overall pick this year. The other trade they made was a bad one, trading Jadeveon Clowney for a 3rd round pick. In 2019, the Texans went 10–6, won the AFC south, won a playoff game and were leading the Chiefs 24–0 in the divisional round of the playoffs, but they ended up blowing that lead and that’s where things started to go downhill. This offseason, Bill O’Brien made a trade that all but sabotaged the organization by trading the best receiver in football, Deandre Hopkins, to the Cards for washed up running back David Johnson and a 2nd round pick. The fact they could not get a first round pick for Hopkins shows you why that’s one of the worst trades in recent memory and as a result of that, the Texans started 0–4 and Bill O’Brien was fired as head coach and GM. The Texans finished the season 4–12 and when it came time hire the GM, they hired Nick Caserio from the Patriots, which really upset Watson and was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This is why Watson wants out of Houston. Lastly, Caserio has made it very clear that the Texans have zero interest in trading Watson, but with Watson not speaking to Caserio since he’s been hired, it’s pretty obvious that Watson is not going to be a Texan next year.
