What the Miami Marlins Covid Outbreak Means for the MLB, NFL and College Sports

The Miami Marlins have at least 14 players and coaches that have tested positive for Covid-19. Miami was playing the Philadelphia Phillies this past weekend, and were supposed to play their home opener Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles, but that has been canceled, and the team remains in Philadelphia.

The Yankees were scheduled to play the Phillies Monday night, but that has been canceled. As of now, no Phillies players have tested positive.

This was only the first weekend of the MLB season and they could not avoid a bad outbreak. The only way the MLB being can get through the season is if teams stay in a bubble. And with two cancellations, how/when will they make up these games when every team only has 7 days off.

The Braves All-Star 1st baseman Freddie Freeman said last week that his fever from Covid spiked to 104.5 degrees and was praying for his life. Boston’s starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez developed a heart issue after battling Covid -19 and does not know when he will return.

This also could be an opening for some players that were having second thoughts on playing, especially in a few weeks as teams start falling out of the pennant race.

I know it is tough to do because players are so used to it, but teammates were not supposed to be hugging and high-fiving, but there was a plenty of that to go around over the weekend.

Until we as a country start following all the guidelines and we see a flattening of the curve, or until we get a vaccine, I just do not see MLB, NFL and college sports being able to play outside of a bubble.
