Five World Series championships together, the brotherhood in the locker room & being part of a historically great roster that made the Yankees the dynasty of the MLB in the 1990’s, was not enough to prevent Andy Pettitte from being a Yankee after being named a special advisor to GM Brian Cashman earlier this week.

“I spoke with Derek (Jeter) recently,” Pettitte told Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. “Obviously that would be something fun you could consider, with a couple of my buddies doing that or whatever. But this is something that has been in the works for really five years. Hal (Steinbrenner) and Cash and the organization have really been so great to me.”

The job has a “laid back” approach which allows Andy to coach his son Luke’s eighth grade baseball team. Pettite joins other Yankee greats in his new role including Alex Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran, Hideki Matsui, and Nick Swisher, among other brothers in pinstripes. After his post-retirement honeymoon, you can bet the Yankees reach out to Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera for a special advisor job as well.

Looking toward the upcoming season, with a team that won 100 games and a playoff appearance, Brian Cashman knows that a championship is within arms reach and adding a man like Andy Pettitte with his pedigree with the franchise can only make that goal more obtainable.
