On Saturday night, Tyler Gilbert threw a no hitter in his Major League debut in the Diamondbacks 7–0 win over the Padres. Gilbert threw 102 pitches, had 5 strike outs, and 3 walks. There are 2 reasons why this is so impressive. One is he did it a against a good line up even though the Padres didn’t have Tatis Jr. They still have Adam Frazier, Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer. The biggest reason why it was so impressive was the last time someone threw a no hitter in their major league debut, was Bobo Holloman for the St. Louis Browns in 1953. With Gilbert throwing a no hitter on Saturday, that ties the Major League record for no hitters in a season the last time 8 no hitters were thrown in a season was 1884.
