The SEC Has a Problem

Alabama’s football head coach Nick Saban and athletic director Greg Byrne have tested positive for Covid-19 offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be taking over the coaches duties for now. Coach Saban has said he has not had any symptoms at the moment. Nick Saban is one of the best coaches of all time and the first thing to come to peoples mind about college football is him and his program at Alabama. The SEC has been able to get through the first 3 weeks of the season without major problems, but now two games have been postponed Missouri vs Vanderbilt and LSU vs Florida. Also Ole Miss is now dealing with an outbreak they did not release a number but said a number of guys will be out vs Arkansas Saturday afternoon and Ole Miss played Alabama last Saturday. Right now there is still a possibility that the Ole Miss game could get postponed and maybe even Alabama’s if some of their players start testing positive as they have a showdown with Georgia Saturday and also Texas A&M could be in jeopardy of postponing their game against Mississippi State because they just played Florida. If in fact Alabama Georgia gets canceled it would really hurt college football because their ratings have been done so far halfway through the year. The SEC has December 12th opened for all teams to makeup games, but teams could have multiple games postponed.
Four teams this week have an outbreak and it should be concerning especially because states down south have been more lendlt with Covid regulations with most of their stadiums not having social distancing and Florida’s Governor announced that all sports stadiums can return to full capacity. Florida’s head coach Dan Mullen on Monday recklessly said that he wanted 90,000 people in the stands Monday. Maybe some players are not being careful, but for the most part most students at university are not social distancing and getting players infected. There is a zero percent chance that college football goes into a bubble. The next few few weeks are critical for the SEC and the rest of college football to try to get this under control as already two dozen games have already been canceled or postponed. With winter on the way things could only get worse if they can’t figure out how to control this
