The Pats need to bench Cam Newton for the rest of the season
By Steve Risser
On Thursday night, the Patriots lost to the Rams 24–3. After the game, Bill Belichick was adamant that Cam Newton is going to be their starting quarterback, but the way he’s been playing recently, it’s time for the Pats to make a change. It’s not like Cam has had a bad season, he’s been average. He has 16 total TD’s 5 passing 11 rushing with 10 Interceptions. He’s played well against the Dolphins, Seahawks, Jets, Ravens and Texans, but he was awful against the Broncos, Niners, Cards and Rams. In 4 of the Pats losses, he either had the ball in his hands to tie or win the game, but he either turned the ball over or failed to drive the Pats to the game-tying or winning score. For the first time in 12 years, there’s a great chance that the Pats miss the playoffs Jarrett Stidham is probably not going to be the long term situation at QB, but with 3 games left, it’s a not a bad idea to have him start a few games to see what you have. Lastly, Cam is probably not going to be back next year and with the Dolphins and Bills having their franchise QB’s with Tua and Josh Allen the Pats need to know what direction their going in at the quarterback position before the start of the 2021 season.
