On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals acquired Nolan Arenado from the Rockies. The addition of Arenado makes the Cardinals the clear favorite in the NL Central. Arenado is really going to help the Cards offense that struggled last year. They were 28th in runs scored and last in all of baseball’s HRs. Before last year, which was the shorten season, Arenado had at least 35 HR’s and 110 RBI’s for 5 straight years. Even with the Cards struggles on offense, the Cards made the playoffs last year and getting Arenado will make them a more complete team. Another reason why the Cards will be the favorite is the NL Central is not good at all. The Cubs are rebuilding, getting rid of Darvish, Lester and Schwarber, and they are trying to get rid of Kris Bryant, as well. For the rest of the NL Central, the Brewers are average. It looks like the Reds are not going to sign Trevor Bauer and the Pirates are the Pirates. Lastly, it will be fun watching two old NL West rivals, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, in the same line up. With them and a good rotation and bullpen, there’s a chance we could be seeing the Cardinals play late into October.
