As the regular season nears its end and the playoffs start in October, the Yankees will be without one of their star players. Domingo German’s administrative leave from the Yankees amid an investigation into domestic violence allegations will extend through the World Series as the MLB announced on Wednesday.

The Yankees pitcher was put on leave in response to an alleged altercation with the mother of his two children on September 16th.

The timing couldn’t be worse as the team is in pursuit of the Houston Astros for the best record in the American League. The right handed pitcher was a candidate for the Cy Young award as he had an 18–4 record with 153 strikeouts in 143 innings pitched.

The Yankees released a statement:

“We fully support all measures being undertaken by the Commissioner’s Office pursuant to the Policy on Domestic Violence. We support this policy which reinforces that domestic violence has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated. We have followed the lead of Major League Baseball and will continue to provide our complete cooperation throughout the investigative process. We reserve any further comment until the investigation reaches its conclusion. All questions pertaining to this matter should be directed to the Office of the Commissioner.”

With the starting pitchers being solid but lacking in consistency, Domingo German was a pivotal member of the rotation that will be missed. Regardless, as it’s been all season, it’s next man up time once again.
