After a fantastic rookie season, where Miguel Andujar was robbed of the 2018 Rookie of the Year, the future looked bright for the 2019 season and beyond.

After suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder, 2019 was a major setback for Andujar when Gio Urselsa had a breakout season, commanding the 3rd baseman position. Many questioned if the Yankees should even bother keeping Andujar, which is an insane thought.

Not only is there big potential for the young 3rd baseman, Miguel Andujar has had a year to recover, get stronger, and practice. Andujar only had 4 games under his belt in 2019 at 3rd base, so to say he still has “throwing issues” is absurd. Andujar has not played enough games at 3rd base in 2019 to show that the arm has improved; however, 2020 Spring Training games may have shed some light on a big improvement in the arm. Andujar is also projected to have a .279 BA, .323 OBP, .494 SLG, with 12 HRs and 40 RBIs in 2020. Compared to his 2018 Rookie of the Year runner up season, .297 BA, .328 OBP, .527 SLG, with 27 HRs and 92 RBIs, the projected numbers seem reasonable, but I anticipate more than just 12 HRs. The main reason being, we should anticipate seeing Andjuar in the lineup pretty frequently. Andujar has become the utility man for the Yankees, showing that he can play 3rd base, outfield, and of course, DH.

With Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge out, Andujar will take over the DH spot for the foreseeable future; however, with the impressive speed and play in outfield, we may see Andujar rotate in outfield with Brett Gardner, and potential Triple A outfielders Mike Tauchman and Clint Frazier.

Let it be written and let it be said, Miguel Andujar is back! Any thought that Andujar would be bait for a big trade should disappear, as Andujar is a Yankee and will remain a Yankee until proven otherwise.
