Evan Engram has just not been what the Giants have hoped for
By Steve Risser
Last night everyone is taking about the long run Daniel Jones had were he tripped before he got to the end zone the play people should be talking about is the drop Evan Engram had on 3rd and 6 to cost the Giants the game. There are 3 reasons why Engram has not lived up to potential since the Giants drafted him in the first round in 2017 one is he drops the ball way too much last night wasn’t a fluke thing for him he has 21 drops in his career and that’s the most of any Tight End since 2017. The 2nd reason is his blocking has not improved when the Giants drafted him 3 years ago they didn’t expect him to block well but the problem is he’s never improved, and it hurts them in pass protection because he can’t give rookie Andrew Thomas help when he’s struggling to block a really good pass rusher. The last reason is he’s never been consistent I said before season he’s the most talented skill guy outside of Barkley, but the talent and consistency has not matched up he’s had flashes of playing well his rookie year he had 64 receptions for 722 yards in 2018 he had 45 receptions for 577 yards in 11 games but since they he’s either not be able to stay healthy or his play has declined last year he missed half the season due to injury and this year he’s had his worst season on the field. Lastly the Giants are eventually going to have to make a decision on Engram last offseason the Giants picked up his 5th year option but the way he’s playing right now the Giants should not invest in him long term.
