We experienced a virtual NFL Draft in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Now that football is back we are going to see how this pandemic will also affect the 2021 NFL Draft with college football games getting canceled and teams playing shortened seasons. Here are the top 7 names to watch during this college football season that could find themselves getting their name called in April at the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Athletic

  1. Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon: Choosing to sit out his last year at Oregon due to COVID-19 is a real disappointment to PAC 12 fans as this man is a monster on the offensive line. Sewell is the prototypical cornerstone to an offensive tackle a team can rebuild their offensive line around and is sure to come in and make an instant impact on the line of scrimmage.

2. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson: Lawrence is everything you want in a quarterback. He will be a solid piece for a team to build around while also having him at the helm will lead the team to compete in any game.

The Athletic

3. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU: Going from one being a key piece in one of the best college football teams of all time to sitting out due to COVID-19. After that great season at LSU, all college football fans are disappointed that we don’t get to see him suit up for the Tigers this season as he was set up to be the best WR in the country.

Sports Illustrated

4. Micah Persons, LB, Penn State: One of last year’s top linebackers in the nation will not be playing for his school due to COVID-19. Persons is a great centerpiece to build both a linebacker and offense core around.

Alabama Athletics

5. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama: Surtain is a shutdown corner. He has the opportunity to show everyone more of his playmaking ability this season as he returns to play for the Tide and possibly lead a national championship defense.

The Athletic

6. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State: Fields is the leader of a true national championship contender as he returns to lead the Buckeyes. Fields is a solid modern-day dual-threat QB no matter whether it is with his legs or his arm Fields will make the defense pay.

CBS Sports

7. Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State: Another player who could have dipped his foot in last year’s draft and could have found himself in the first round but chose to come back and then with the Big 10 canceling there season chose to sit out the season. But now that Big 10 is back and so is Wade, without the competition of Okudah and Arnette, and ready to make a splash for the Buckeyes in the secondary.
