This has been a rough week and a half for the Yankees. After losing the Sunday night game to the Red Sox 8–5, the Bombers were 38–20 and had won 9 straight series for the first time since 1998.

After an off day, the Yankees went North of the Border, where they managed to avoid being swept by taking the finale of the three game series. The Yankees then headed to Cleveland, and once again lost a series, but managed not to get swept by battling back to beat the Indians 7–6 in 10 innings.

The Yankees finished the road trip 2–4 and lost consecutive series for the first time since April. On top of that, the Yankees lost out on free agent pitcher Dallas Keuchel, who signed with the Atlanta Braves for slightly more money. That stung a bit more when the Yankees announced they were putting their 2019 ace Domingo German on the 10 day IL.

Despite hitting their first rough patch since the middle of April, the Yankees find themselves a half game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays after splitting a double header with the New York Mets. Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge will be returning to the lineup soon, and Luis Severino has begun throwing, and could be back with the team right after the All Star Break.

This is not the time to hit the panic button. The Yankees rotation has been less than stellar and the overworked bullpen hasn’t been particularly effective. A day off and a rain out might have been just what this team needed.
