CC Not On The ALDS Roster
Manager Aaron Boone recently announced his roster for the ALDS series against the Minnesota Twins, and veteran pitcher CC Sabathia was not on the list. This came as a shock, as Sabathia returned for his final year with the Yankees to help win a championship. Although he may have not been the Yankees first choice as a starter, Sabathia showed some promise as a potential reliever. During his last outing as a reliever Sabathia went 1 inning with no hits, striking out 2 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
So why did the Yankees make this decision, did they Yankees truly feel Sabathia could not help the Yankees? Was his knee bothering him again? Or is it possible Sabathia just doesn’t have a good record against the Twins?
During a press conference, Sabathia cleared the air and said that he felt some shoulder pain after his last outing in Tampa Bay. He was given a cortisone shot, which both Sabathia and the Yankees felt would help get him ready for this series with the Twins. Sabathia noted that the cortisone shot didn’t fully help and that there is still some soreness in his shoulder. Although disappointed, Sabathia gracefully bowed out for this first series against the Twins saying he “didn’t want to put the team in jeopardy…didn’t want
to be selfish and go out there hurt and put the team in a bad spot”.
This doesn’t mean Sabathia’s pitching career is officially over, he will continue his recovery in hopes to make a return to the roster. He has high hopes and faith that his team will keep advancing, but for now he will be out there to cheer his team on. As long as the Yankees keep advancing, there’s a good chance you will see Sabathia make his return for one final championship run.
